When creating this website and blog, Sven, Iva and I, as co-founders of Run Croatia, had a vision of a partnership with YOU aimed at presenting Croatia as the most beautiful running destination in the world. Apart from this, we would like to promote movement as one of the most important health factor, as well as an activity that brings pleasure, satisfaction, and positivity. In that sense we would like to set an example for the generations to come.
Having said that, we would like to invite you to send your photos, videos and texts related to running events to us, and we will publish them in cooperation with race organizers and our sponsors.
Having finished all six major marathons (Boston, Chicago, London, Berlin, New York and Tokyo), I had the opportunity to experience energy of these races. Ever since 2013 when, after the London Marathon, my dream of running all major marathons in the world came true, all I wanted was to experience this atmosphere and energy at major Croatian running events.
I started running in 2010. One does not become a runner overnight! One needs to run miles and miles despite the weather and the mood. In order to be able to stick to the training schedule in this hectic everyday living, one should possess organizational skills. Also, each new runner goes through a transitional phase during which a passive, maybe even completely sedentary body grows into a body of a runner. But once you start experiencing progress and broadening your running perspective, when you will feel unstoppable, and will turn into an invincible goal achiever, reflections of this progress will positively influence other areas of your life. To run means to work on yourself. It is a constant battle between the body and the mind. It is a way of learning to ignore our mind’s constant chatter telling us that we cannot make it so that we can push ourselves to the limits, and then push ourselves a little bit more. To run means to train our will to see what is hidden behind NOs, and doubts imposed by the mind. And with every step, even the smallest one, we achieve our goal of broadening our horizons.
That is the main goal of Run Croatia – to remove the boundaries we have created in our minds, and to encourage personal development, as well as to support the process of development of our society, both in the social and economic terms. With this introduction I would like to invite you to read my first blog about my experience of the Boston Marathon. The Boston Marathon was first run in April 1897, inspired by the revival of the marathon for the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens. It is the oldest continuously running marathon in the world. Back in 1897 it had only 18 participants.
